About Us

AlbumPost was founded in 2003 by a pair of photo enthusiasts. In 2002 we both bought our first digital cameras and instantly fell in love. The ability to take unlimited pictures without worrying about film and developing costs soon led to literally thousands of pictures piling up on our computers collecting (virtual) dust. We wanted to share them with our friends and family but there were too many to print, they were too big to email, and making our own web pages was way too time consuming. The photo printing sites (Shutterfly, Photoworks, Snapfish, etc.) were all focused on selling us prints rather than on displaying our photos.

After months of frustration we stumbled upon the perfect solution - a web-based photo album hosting tool called Gallery. Gallery is an open- source project (like Linux) and a group of dedicated programmers have worked for years to build it.

Since we happen also to be huge computer geeks we had our own Linux server and were able to install and run Gallery on it. Soon enough we had hundreds of albums and thousands of pictures online and were sharing them with our friends and family. Soon after that they were asking us to give them accounts and we realized that there was a huge need for web-based digital photo hosting.

Most of our friends are (fortunately!) not huge computer geeks and installing and running Gallery on Linux was not how they wanted to spend their time. We launched Gallery to satisfy the needs of folks like them and you. We charge a modest annual fee to cover the costs of disk space, bandwidth, computers, and support.
